Honey for Skin: Cosmetic Research vs. Medical Honey
By Gaucho Gold · Brand editorial
Shop Honey + Turmeric — $12The short answer
Peer-reviewed reviews discuss honey in cosmetic preparations and in wound treatment, but these are different uses. Medical honey research is not proof that a honey-containing soap heals skin. Our Honey + Turmeric bar is a cleanser, not medical-grade honey or a wound-care product.
Honey has a cosmetic research history
Burlando and Cornara reviewed honey in dermatology and skin care, discussing cosmetic preparations and roles such as humectancy and emolliency. Their paper also describes how honey’s botanical source and composition affect its properties. This is background about an ingredient, not a controlled trial of every honey-containing product.
A narrative review can explain why formulators are interested in honey without proving an outcome for a specific bar. The paper does not establish Gaucho Gold’s honey concentration or a measured result after washing. We do not borrow its general descriptions as finished-product test claims.

Why wound-care studies are a different category
The Cochrane review by Jull and colleagues evaluated honey as a topical wound treatment. Its authors found that conclusions depended on the wound type and comparison, with substantial limitations in much of the evidence. Those are clinical wound-care questions, not a study of an everyday shower routine.
Honey preparations used in dressings and wound treatment are not interchangeable with honey-containing cleansing soap. Do not wash wounds with our bar in an attempt to reproduce those studies. Follow clinician-directed wound care rather than using a cosmetic ingredient story as treatment guidance.
Bring the ingredient story back to your purchase
Honey is one of the featured ingredients in Gaucho Gold Honey + Turmeric Tallow Soap. If that pairing and a solid tallow-based format appeal to you, the bar is a straightforward way to choose our signature everyday cleanser. The packaging remains the source for the full formula and use instructions.
Pick a single bar to begin or add several for your own supply. This is a one-time soap purchase, not an invitation to self-treat a condition. If you have an ingredient allergy or another specific requirement, resolve that against the complete label before ordering rather than relying on the word honey.
Questions before your first bar?
Is Gaucho Gold soap medical-grade honey?
No. Our Honey + Turmeric product is a cleansing bar, not medical-grade honey or a wound dressing.
Do honey studies prove that this bar moisturizes skin?
No finished-product moisturizing result is established by the cited reviews. A cosmetic role discussed for an ingredient does not prove the same outcome in this rinse-off soap.
Read the research. Know its limits.
These peer-reviewed publications concern ingredients and specific preparations. None tests or endorses the Gaucho Gold finished bar. Publication years are shown so you can assess the age of the evidence.
Narrative review · 2013
Honey in dermatology and skin care: a review
Bruno Burlando, Laura Cornara. Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology. PMID: 24305429.
This review discusses honey in dermatological and cosmetic preparations, including humectant and emollient roles. It describes how composition and botanical source affect its properties.
What this does not prove: A narrative review is not a controlled test of our bar. The paper does not establish a moisturizing result, ingredient concentration, or medical benefit for Gaucho Gold soap.
Systematic review of wound-treatment trials · 2015
Honey as a topical treatment for wounds
Andrew B. Jull, Nicky Cullum, Jo C. Dumville, Maggie J. Westby, Sohan Deshpande, Natalie Walker. Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews. PMID: 25742878.
The review evaluated honey in acute and chronic wound care. Findings varied by wound type and comparison, and the authors cautioned against broad conclusions from heterogeneous, often low-quality evidence.
What this does not prove: Wound-treatment preparations and dressings are not cleansing bars. Do not use our soap as a wound treatment or substitute for clinician-directed care.
